Bee Garden:

Maži's Hill

A living habitat for bees, pollinators and people — where nature, biodiversity and local tradition grow together.

OUR STORY

From Hillside to Pollinator Sanctuary

On the sunny hillside of MažI’s Hill, a new bee garden has taken root — created to support bees, pollinators, and biodiversity throughout the seasons.

Carefully selected nectar-rich plants, herbs, perennial flowers, and natural materials blend into the surrounding rural landscape, creating a space that feels both ecological and deeply connected to nature.

Every element was designed with purpose: to provide food, shelter, and long-term value for pollinators while preserving the authentic character of the environment.

What Makes this Garden Special?

Food for Pollinators

Flowering plants selected for high nectar and pollen value provide food sources throughout the seasons.

Natural Rural Character

Natural materials, bark mulch, and ecological planting preserve the authentic countryside atmosphere.

Built for Biodiversity

A flowering slope and locally adapted planting help support pollinators and strengthen biodiversity over time.

GARDEN PLAN

Designed with Purpose

The Maži,s Hill bee garden combines aesthetics, biodiversity and pollinator support in one living ecosystem.

A flowering perennial border surrounding the apikomoras, designed to provide continuous nectar and pollen sources for bees and other pollinators.

Biodiversity Planting Zone

A smaller ecological planting area designed to soften the surrounding structures and increase habitat diversity.

Flowering Meadow Slope

A semi-natural flowering meadow planted with native species inspired by traditional Slovenian grasslands.

Linden Shade Tree

A future linden tree providing shade, cooling, and long-term ecological value.

Apitherapy House

A traditional wooden structure integrated into the ecological landscape of the bee garden.

What Honey Plants Did We Plant?

From lavender and salvia to echinacea and linden trees, every species was selected for its nectar and pollen value, seasonal flowering, resilience, and ability to support pollinators throughout the year.

THE TRANSFORMATION

From Open Land to Living Bee Garden

The Maži’s Hill Bee Garden began as an open rural hillside and was carefully shaped into a living habitat for bees, pollinators, visitors, and the surrounding landscape. Each phase tells part of the story — from preparing the land and planting the first honey plants to creating a space that will become richer, fuller, and more valuable for pollinators with every season.

CREATED THROUGH PARTNERSHIP

Together for the Bees

The Maži’s Hill Bee Garden was created through the collaboration of partners who share the same belief: real support for bees and biodiversity happens through practical, visible action. From planting expertise and beekeeping knowledge to local support and project sponsorship, each partner helped turn this hillside into a living space for pollinators, nature, and people.
